Marriage & The Family

“Judah has dealt treacherously, And an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem, For Judah has profaned The LORD’S holy institution which He loves:” (Mal 2:11)

The marriage and the family are God’s holy institutions. God instituted marriage and the family before all other institutions. He gave rules and guidelines for marriages and family living, in order to have orderly societies. Therefore, God calls the marriage the institution He loves.

Anyone who acts in a manner that hurts his or her marriage goes against the will of God and therefore grieves the heart of God. His word expressly states that; “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Ge 2:24)

God therefore spoke through Malachi stating that;

“For the Lord God of Israel says
That He hates divorce,
For it covers one’s garment with violence,”
Says the Lord of hosts.
“Therefore take heed to your spirit,
That you do not deal treacherously.”(Mal.2:16)

While Christ said that; “Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”  (Mr 10:9)

By contrast, the devil hates stable marriages and will try to destroy marriages through sexual immorality, marital unfaithfulness, domestic violence, discord and divorce. (Jn.10:10) In your marriage life, you are either cooperating with God or with the devil. People that facilitate the breakdown of the family are cooperating with Satan and will receive the judgement of God. They are doing what God hates. God’s word therefore tells us; “Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.” (Mal.2:16)

The closer we are to God, the closer we get to our spouses. The farther we get from God, the farther we will get from our spouses. When we are faithful to God, we are also faithful to our spouses.  You cannot genuinely love God without loving your spouse. Your spouse is your companion by covenant (Mal.2:14) and God has a purpose of raising a Godly family through you.  He therefore solemnly commands that spouses deal faithfully with one another.

“But did He not make them one,
Having a remnant of the Spirit?
And why one?
He seeks godly offspring.
Therefore take heed to your spirit,
And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.” (Mal 2:15)

Healthy children are raised through healthy marriages. The best gift you could give to your children is loving their mother or father. When you injure your spouse, you are inevitably slowly destroying your children. Do yourself and your children a favour; love your spouse. You will be in good fellowship with God and you will be securing the future of yourself, your spouse and your children.
