“The watchman said,
“The morning comes, and also the night.
If you will inquire, inquire;
Return! Come back!” (Isa 21:12)
I am convinced that more than ever, believers need to ascertain what time it is in the prophetic calendar. The Bible is a prophetic book. The faith we hold is prophetic, and the Lord has prescribed a prophetic timeline, through which we can discern where we are in relation to the coming of the Lord.
Jesus Himself expects us to discern the signs of our times “and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.” (Mt 16:3)
What are the signs of our times? What can we read from the events in our generation? There are many and varied. I will list a few of them:
1.Wars and rumours of war
The last century has had a lot of this.
2. False apostles and false teachers
No doubt we are in this period. The Christian faith has been inundated with apostles and prophets for pay; charging fees for prayers; selling anointing and using the gospel to enrich themselves; not to mention that some are using occult power and counterfeit miracles to draw people to themselves. Many so far are deceived.
3. The sign of the Gospel (Mt. 24:14)
More than ever before, the gospel of Christ has permeated to the entire world. Many in the Muslim nations and the former closed countries are coming to Christ. This has unleashed a wave of persecution against Christians in many nations.
4. The anti-Christ is closing in on many nations
As a result, many countries are passing laws that are unfavourable to the Christian faith, including our country. Laws are being made to legalize what the Bible condemns as evil.
5. Cosmic disturbances
The earth itself is in turmoil; earthquakes, Tsunamis, forest fires, hurricanes, sun storms, etc.
These are but a few of the signs that should warn us that the time of the Lord’s coming is very near.We must watch and wait and live in a manner worthy to receive Him when He comes.
